Wayne Erskine was charged with murder and alternative offences of manslaughter and causing death by dangerous driving. Mr Erskine was alleged to have deliberately driven a Jeep Cherokee at Vincent Holligan on the Northern Perimiter Road in Netherton in June 2014. The eyewitnesses were discredited to the extent that the trial judge took the unusual step of suggesting that they should be prosecuted for perverting the course of justice after Mr Erskine was acquitted of all charges. The trial had been moved from Liverpool to Manchester because of trouble at earlier hearings. A report can be found here.
